Directions for Hanging:

Our Antependia are designed to be suspended from the front edges of the bookrest of Pulpits and Lecterns by means of curtain rods, which we supply with each hanging. The rod is inserted through a sleeve at the top of the Antependium and nailed to the top of the bookrest on either side. As a result, the Antependium needs to be one or two inches narrower than the bookrest. The row of stitching at the bottom of the sleeve should be aligned with the front edge of the bookrest. In this way, the sleeve and the rod will not be seen by the congregation. As an alternative hangings can be finished with Velcro.

The fact that a small portion of the bookrest shows on either side usually enhances, rather than detracts from, the appearance. The wood has a tendency to set-off the Antependium. Nevertheless, Antependia can be made the full width of the bookrest. In such cases, a double-thickness of the lining, stiffened with an insert, extends above the facing to completely cover the top of the bookrest. This method, generally, must be used for metal book rests and the newer “V” shaped wooden ones. There is an additional charge to cover the extra material and labour involved. Quotations on Request.
All our Antependia are made to measure. There are NO STOCK SIZES. The size mentioned in our price list is only for the purpose of pricing.

To determine the size:

If there is no existing Antependium to use as a guide, we suggest that you place a piece of paper over the front edge of the bookrest and gradually cut it down to size until you have reached the best proportions from the standpoint of eye appeal. When submitting measurements, give only the necessary allowances for fringe at the bottom and the sleeve at the top. The width is usually much greater than the length. In effect, they resemble miniature Superfrontals.
